On Earth, the Autobots' Nevada base is under attack by Lord Jhiaxus' forces. Optimus Prime and Megatron conclude that the only way for Jhiaxus to slip by their early-warning system is if Starscream helped them. In Earth orbit, a similar predicament is occurring on the Warworld -- the next-generation Decepticons are using insider knowledge to target and destroy the most critical systems, and Starscream leads a boarding party on the ship.
Meanwhile, despite Jhiaxus' advantages of surprise, numbers, and firepower, Optimus and Megatron's forces are beating them back with teamwork and determination. Jhiaxus is impressed but relentless; he sends a second, larger squad of Decepticons into the battle, and orders all of his forces throughout the galaxy to immediately head for Earth and join the battle.
The boarding party finds the Warworld abandoned, as the crew uses escape pods to return to Earth. While Jhiaxus' forces give chase, Starscream is left behind, and he heads for the central chamber -- where the Creation Matrix is stored -- to implement the next phase of his plan...
Outnumbered and overwhelmed, Optimus orders the Autobots and Megatron's Decepticons to retreat and regroup. He tells Megatron that they need to get the Creation Matrix back (to prevent Jhiaxus from taking it), and Megatron provides a shuttle for the task. What Optimus doesn't tell Megatron is that he wants to try and end the battle by warning Jhiaxus about the Swarm, and then uniting their forces against it.
In a remote region of space, the battalion Xerxes is following Jhiaxus' orders to join the battle when they are suddenly attacked by the Swarm. After quickly destroying them, the Swarm learns about the battle orders, and then heads directly for Earth...

In orbit above the Earth, the Decepticon Warworld begins firing on Lord Jhiaxus' forces, destroying them in a surprise attack. Approaching in a shuttle, Megatron congratulates Optimus Prime on the diversion, but Optimus does not know the cause of the attack.
When the two leaders land, they are confused by the Warworld's changing layout and shifting surfaces. They are suddenly attacked by the ship's living hull, and quickly brought to Starscream -- who has used the Creation Matrix to merge himself with the Warworld!
