Resumen:
Among the rubble-strewn surface of Cybertron, a group of Autobots have found the shattered body of Optimus Prime. To Wheeljack's amazement, Optimus is still barely alive, due to an overdose of life-force at Unicron's explosion (last issue). With his final words, Optimus gives Prowl an important message, then dies.
Elsewhere on Cybertron, the Nebulan called HiQ is running from a pack of unseen creatures. As his body began to change, he realizes why Optimus has been having convultions in the last few weeks, and is now trying to stay alive long enough to use this knowledge.
At the new Autobot-Decepticon command center, Prowl tells Grimlock that Optimus has named him the new Autobot leader. Grimlock accepts the role indifferently, which causes Prowl to accuse him of being ignorant of the responsibilities involved. Grimlock counters that he has more urgent matters to attend to -- the Ark has gone missing, and he has to find it, since there are still deactivated Autobots on board. Reluctantly agreeing, Prowl delivers Optimus' final message: that Grimlock must remember that the Autobots' enemies are still living beings, and have to be treated as such. Grimlock leaves, whereupon Blaster confers with Prowl about some unsettling seismic reports.
As the Dinobots are searching for the Ark, Swoop asks why Grimlock lost his temper with Prowl. Grimlock explains that Prowl is too idealistic -- the destruction of Unicron won't eliminate millions of years of hostility, and the Autobot-Decepticon alliance is hopelessly fragile. Grimlock suddenly stops as his entire body turns immobile. HiQ catches up to them a moment later, and they are immediately surrounded by a pack of misshapened robotic monsters.
At a hidden landing site, Starscream and Shockwave are working to make the Ark spaceworthy once more. Though Starscream agrees that this is a perfect time to attack the undefended Earth, he doesn't understand Shockwave's sense of urgency. But a mysterious figure hiding in the shadows understands...
Refusing to abandon the immobile Grimlock, the Dinobots stand and fight the monsters. They can hold their ground at first, but more creatures appear, threatening to overrun them with sheer numbers. With PowerMaster senses, HiQ realizes that Grimlock's "paralysis" is really a chrysalises state. HiQ taps into Grimlock's energies and accelerates his transformation, causing Grimlock to be reborn in a faster, more powerful form.
The revitalized Grimlock quickly scatters the monsters, but manages to capture one of them. Grimlock prepares to kill it, but is stopped when HiQ makes an impassioned plea about the sanctity of life. Grimlock agrees, realizing that he has a responsibility as an Autobot and a leader to set a proper example for the others.
On the way back to headquarters, Grimlock confesses that his new body cannot transform, leaving him stuck in robot mode. When Slag compares HiQ's oratory skills to Optimus Prime's, HiQ responds that he is Optimus...
Los monstruos subterráneos se identifican ellos mismos como una temprana creación experimental de Primus, que aparecieron en los números 245 a 247 del cómic de Transformers de Marvel UK. Algunos de los monstruos en esa historia pelean contra Bumblebee, Jazz y Grimlock en sus formas Pretender, aunque aquí parece que Grimlock no los reconoce.
La nueva forma de Grimlock esta modelada como el juguete de la línea Action Masters.
