Resumen:
Out in deep space, the Underbase -- the ultimate repository of knowledge from Cybertron -- drifts aimlessly. Planets boil and stars nova in its destructive wake ... and it is now heading for Earth.
On Earth, the Aerialbots follow Buster Witwicky's rescue beacon (given to him last issue) to the Arctic, and save him from freezing to death. In the Decepticons' hidden base nearby, Scorponok and Ratbat are working to get spaceborne and follow Starscream when the Autobots' arrival is detected. While the Autobots are attacked by the Decepticons, Starscream prepares to intercept the Underbase and take its power.
In the Arctic, Buster succeeds in reminding Ratbat of Starscream's treachery, and the battle quickly ends in a truce. Optimus Prime, aware of the Underbase's dangers (as shown in issue #48), joins with the Decepticons to stop Starscream. The Decepticon base is quickly repaired, and they fly into space just as Starscream begins to merge with the Underbase. A blast knocks Starscream away and interrupts the union, but to no avail -- Starscream has already gained some of the power, and shatters the Decepticon ship with one blow. Leaving his foes to drift helplessly through space, Starscream returns to Earth to conquer it.
After Starscream leaves, Optimus Prime summons the Ark, which was left conveniently nearby. Once on board, the Autobots and Decepticons divide into three teams to try and stop Starscream on Earth. Optimus Prime insists on staying on the Ark without specifying why, and the Decepticons call him a coward.
Starscream rampages through New York City, Tokyo, and Buenos Aires. He is challenged at each location by Autobots and Decepticons, but he defeats them all (though without destroying the cities, as threatened). At Buenos Aires, Starscream overhears a message from the Ark to Fortress Maximus, which reminds him that he has not yet fought Optimus Prime. Starscream then returns to space to complete his vengeance.
On the Ark, Optimus Prime launches a rocket to intercept the Underbase just as Scorponok and Ratbat show up. The Decepticons accuse Prime of trying to steal its power; Scorponok blasts Ratbat and Optimus, then flies into space to claim the Underbase for himself. Optimus Prime quickly follows, intercepting Scorponok before he could take the Underbase's power. As the two leaders watch, Starscream arrives from Earth, intercepts the Underbase ... and then explodes, overloaded with power.
Back on the Ark, Optimus explains to Scorponok that his plan was to lure the Underbase to Earth to bait Starscream. The two leaders make arrangements to recover their fallen soldiers; with terse words, Scorponok vows to resume the Decepticons' plans of conquest once his forces have recovered.

Optimus Prime dice que hace poco que ha reconstruido a los Throttlebots, pero no se explica como son liberados, ya que estaban en poder Walter Barnett.
Muchos de los personajes que aparecen en este número no vuelven a aparecer nunca más; seguramente esto se hizo para permitir introducir el próximo lote de juguetes / personajes.
