Resumen:
On the Steelhaven, the Autobots' last effort to build a body for Optimus Prime fails, and without any more resources, they're stuck. However, Hot Rod has located the Ark, and Fortress Maximus orders a rendezvous in hopes they have the facilities to repair Optimus.
In the Ark, Ratchet begs Grimlock to return to Earth and fight the Decepticons, but Grimlock refuses by saying he'll pick his own fights. Arriving at the Ark, Fortress Maximus asks Grimlock to help in Prime's resurrection effort. Grimlock berates him for following Optimus Prime's "cowardly" and human-protective tactics, prompting Spike to separate from Fort Max and reveal himself. Learning that Goldbug is on the Steelhaven, Grimlock demands his return and execution (for his defection in issue #28). Over Fortress Maximus' protests, Goldbug surrenders for the good of Autobot unity and is thrown in the brig. Grimlock then invokes an ancient Autobot tradition and challenges Fort Max for leadership of the Autobots.
Goldbug finds Blaster clamped to an energy-draining voltage harness, and tells him that the damaged Fort Max (from the battle in issue #39) cannot hope to beat Grimlock. Blaster is too weak to care; Sky Lynx and the human children disappeared after his surrender (in issue #36), and he has been ignored since. Goldbug goads him into being Fortress Maximus' champion with the idea of getting revenge on Grimlock, and Blaster accepts. On the Decepticon base (in Earth space), Soundwave has located the Steelhaven and the Ark, whereupon Ratbat orders an immediate attack.
The Autobot ships land on the Moon. Except for a skeletal crew on the Steelhaven, all of the Autobots disembark to watch the challenge. Blaster and Grimlock battle briefly before Blaster kicks Grimlock several miles away and chases him. Before the other Autobots can follow, the Decepticons attack; during the fight, the Constructicons raid the Ark and free the Decepticons held inside (captured in issue #19). Seeing this, Fortress Maximus orders Goldbug to leave.
Seeing the attack, Blaster uses convoluted logic to talk Grimlock into a truce, and they return as the Steelhaven lifts off. Grimlock suspects treachery, but Blaster reminds him that they're supposed to fight the Decepticons -- not each other. Though Grimlock still wants the Autobot leadership, he agrees to call the fight a draw, and the two charge into battle. When Ratbat attacks with the Decepticon base, they work together to destabilize it, prompting the Decepticons to withdraw.
As the surviving Autobots clean up, they learn that Fortress Maximus ordered the Steelhaven to fly to Nebulos (the home planet of the Headmasters, from the Headmasters limited series). He realizes that only Optimus Prime can truly lead the Autobots, and hopes the Nebulans can restore him...
