Cómic de un solo número realizado por 3H Enterprises (organizadores del evento anual BotCon), publicado exclusivamente para el BotCon '97, celebrado del 18 al 20 de Julio de 1997 en Rochester, Nueva York. En el cómic aparecen dos personajes que eran juguetes exclusivos del BotCon '97: Fractyl y Packrat, repintados de Terrorsaur y Rattrap respectivamente. El cómic estaba incluido en un pack que llevaba los dos robots exclusivos, y también estuvo disponible individualmente únicamente a través de 3H Enterprises durante un tiempo limitado.
El cómic fue escrito y dibujado por el famoso equipo del cómic de Transformers de Marvel formado por Simon Furman y Andrew Wildman.
El arte del cómic era en blanco y negro, con gradientes grises.
La historia del cómic está basada en la serie de televisión Beast Wars Transformers, y usa algunos de sus personajes incluyendo a Blackarachnia, Inferno, Cheetor y Rhinox.
De todos modos, Packrat y Fractyl son las estrellas de ésta historia.

Resumen:
The tale begins with Megatron and Blackarachnia consulting Fractyl on his newest discovery, the new energy called Furmanite. This is meant to protect the Predacons from the high energon fields on the primitve world of the Beast Wars. Using Furmanite, Fractyl hopes to create "Energon Armor" which can lead the Predacons to victory over the Maximals! Suddenly, his experiment seems to go wrong and everything explodes!
Or so it seems. It turns out Fractyl was merely daydreaming. In reality Blackarachnia is trying to snap Fractyl out of his stupor. He finally snaps out of it and Blackarachnia tells him how important it is to the Predacons (and to her) that the Furmanite be prepared. Meanwhile, the Predacons have a visitor. Packrat, the Maximal thief has been watching. He doesn't know exactly what Furmanite is, but he knows he wants it!
Meanwhile, Fractyl is ready for the final test for Furmanite by exposing himself to high powered energon in robot mode while utilizing the Furmanite. As Fractyl runs his test, Packrat tries to sneak up on the Predacons to steal the Furmanite, but Inferno sees him and begins firing at him! Packrat tries to get away but in the chaos, Inferno drops the high powered energon crystal and it explodes.
In the confusion, Packrat manages to grab the Furmanite and run. Dazed, Fractyl figures out that the Furmanite is nothing but anti-energon, a substance that is highly destructive if it comes in contact with regular energon!
Inferno meanwhile, is chasing down Packrat who transforms into robot mode and begins infusing the Furmanite within his structure. If not removed soon enough, he can explode!
Meanwhile, Cheetor, Rhinox and Airazor are gathered enjoying the day when the note the battle between Inferno and Packrat. They quickly run to the scene where Cheetor promptly gets blasted. The battle continues as Packrat, now feeling more powerful than ever destroys Inferno. The other Maximals try to stop him but he won't listen.
Fractyl steps in and tries to convince Packrat that he's going down a potentially destructive road.
Packrat refuses to believe anyone at first, feeling they just want to rob him of his new found powers. Finally, the Maximals try to convince him to let Fractyl remove the Furmanite.
In return for saving his life, Packrat lets Fractyl act like he's chasing off the Maximals alone. When Megatron shows up, he is most pleased with Fracty'ls apparant courage.
El mismo cómic tiene dos títulos: "Critical Mass" aparece en la portada del cómic y en la web de BotCon, y "Ground Zero" en el interior de las páginas del cómic.
"Ground Zero" es una referencia al doble CD de música exclusivo del BotCon '97, en el que una de las pistas se llama "Ground Zero", una canción original de Stan Bush y Vince DiCola que se usó como tema de la convención.
La "Furmanite" es evidentemente una auto referencia a Simon Furman, escritor de éste número y de los cómics de Transformers de Marvel.
Los triángulos pequeños situados a la izquierda de los "bocadillos" tienen su origen en el cómic de Transformers Generation 2, donde cada personaje tenía esos triángulos, algunos coloreados para coincidir con los colores del personaje.
